February Newsletter 2007

Minutes of February 07, 2007;
The meeting was called to order at approximately 6:30 pm at the range by club president, Michael McCalister. Present at the meeting were Alex Vervilos, Robert Tabarez, Bill Hornof Sr, Mike Beddow, Bill Hornof Jr, Dave Haverstock, Randy Gastineau,  Al Rafferty,  Jim Wohlgemuth, Mark Rubio, Robert Williams, Brett Meitner, Ryan Duncan, Dusty Robben, Paul Ackerman, Chad Reis, Louie Fusaro, Tom Sievwright, and Joe DeAngeles.

Old Business;
Our annual Oasis Shoot is almost upon us and we will definitely be needing volunteers to come out and help at all of the work parties and on shoot day. As we all know, we usually have several work parties just before our shoot, besides the normal monthly work party. Please come out and help support your club.
We are still in need of a club publicist and are looking for a member to volunteer for this year.

Range Report;
Everyone please make sure that our tractors have water in them before use. Steve noticed that our yellow tractor was completely dry. Range looks good and Dave will let everyone know when our next work party will be as there are things to be done before our Oasis shoot.

Remember: No smoking on the range!

New Business:
We have had a meeting with the new president of the Yolo Horse Shoe Club and it looks as though they are going to try and revive their club. The Yolo Bowmen and the Yolo Horse Shoe Clubs are going to be working together on getting all of the buildings cleaned up and get the locks changed on the kitchen and bathroom building. The Yolo Bowmen look forward to helping the Yolo Horse Shoe Club where ever we can. We are looking for a new park host to live at the Yolo Bowmen facility as Bob will be moving. This will be temporary as the County of Yolo will try to get a more permanent host. Temporary could mean, for quite a long while. The host would need to provide their own trailer to live in and pay their own propane and electricity. But the rent is free! Anyone interested or knows of an interested party, please contact us.

We have hauled off two huge trailer loads of junk from our new garage and the green cargo container. These two areas will now be used by the bowmen for storage of 3D targets and work areas.

Jim will most likely be using the Yolo Horse Shoe sign up room for this year’s Oasis shoot registration. No more skunk smell for the registration team! We are sending out a donation request letter along with this month’s newsletter in the hopes of generating some cash to help offset some of our Oasis Shoot expenses. This is something that we’ve done each year and have had great success.

We will be working on our 3D targets on Monday and Thursday evenings at the range starting at about 6:00 on this coming Monday. (02/12/2007) Please come out and give a hand as more bodies will make the work easier and quicker for all involved. Please note that our July meeting will be held on July 11 this year instead of the 4th. Chad has stated that this year’s Oasis Eve dinner festivities and dinner will be the best yet. So, if you are interested in spending the night before our shoot at the range, welcome.

Al Rafferty is working on a shoot for October of this year at the Yolo Bowmen range and it will be a “Coats for Kids” shoot. Registration fees will be a new or used, clean coat to be donated to Channel 10 for their Coats for Kids drive. Channel 10 news will provide media coverage for this event.

We also want to remind everyone to please support and buy from both, Wilderness Archery and the Bow Rack as these two pro shops really help The Yolo Bowen with donations and other items through out the year. They have come through on countless occasions for the Yolo Bowmen over the years and we definitely appreciate it.

Alex has been doing a tremendous job keeping the Bowmen up to speed on the Nor-Cal events. Nor-Cal has a new President in Randy Long and the Bowmen wish him well in his new position.

A Brief Introduction

The Yolo Bowmen Archey Range was founded in 1958 with the aim to promote the sport of archery and bowhunting. The range is located at Grasslands Regional Park in Davis, California. Though the range is open to the public for a small fee ($5), formal membership is affordable and highly encouraged. The range consists of two 14 target fieldcourses and an excellent practice range.
