May & June Newsletter 2007
Minutes of May & June 2007;
The meeting was called to order at approximately 7:00 pm at the range by club president, Michael McCalister. Present at the meeting were Alex Vervilos, Robert Tabarez, Bill Hornof Sr, Mike Beddow, Al Rafferty, Jim Wohlgemuth, Mark Rubio, Robert Williams, Ryan Duncan, Dusty Robben, Paul Ackerman, Jim Gietler, Jeff King, Chad Azevedo, Randy Gastineau, Bill Hornof Jr, Jim Rose & (Better Half), Melissa and Louie Fussaro.
Old Business;
Our Yolobowmen website is up and running. Mike is still learning how to make the appropriate changes and add information. Please send me any information, news or pictures that you would like to have added to your website. Please keep the hunting pictures tasteful. Al Rafferty is working closely with Kris from the County of Yolo on the Bowmen Range improvements and it looks like the new indoor range will be approved very soon and then we’ll need to apply for the permit. Several members are working on the new practice range and we hope to have it close to done by the end of this year.
Range Report;
The range is in dry condition so, we need to police the range and make sure that no one is smoking on the range. This year could be a very bad fire year as we’ve had very little rain. The yellow tractor has new flails on it and now mows like it should. We still need to mow a fire break around the safe trail and that is being worked on. A new gas powered weed eater has been purchased and also works great. We would like to thank John at Dixon Power for helping us out on the price.
Remember: No smoking on the range!
New Business:
Randy made a suggestion that we make up business cards for the Yolo Bowmen with a map on the back. Mike to look into this and get the art work done and get a price. Al made a suggestion that we think seriously about having a company their “Pop Up” shoot to our next Oasis shoot. We could make some money on the split and everyone would have fun shooting at the Pop Ups. Randy is going to get shirts made up with the Yolo Bowmen logo on them. You would need to supply your own shirt to Randy and simply pay a small fee for the logo. All shirts are to be collected at the July meeting which will be held on JULY 11th this year due to the fourth of July. We are also discussing the purchase of a couple of new 3D targets for our next shoot. Building improvements were discussed and a new concrete floor is to be poured in the storage garage on June 9th at 7:00 am. We could use the help. Robert Tabarez’ daughter shot her first turkey this year. Since she is a better shot than dad, I’m sure we’ll see more in the future. Our big buck contest was discussed by Mark Rubio and he will look into a “perpetual” trophy for the winner each year along with the cash award. The Pope & Young scoring system to be used.
Nor-Cal Report:
Al Rafferty is the new Vice President for Nor-Cal. There is some discussion going on about a club shoot challenge which would be held on club shoot Sundays. The details are being worked out and the other clubs seem to think it would be fun. Let’s hope it works as we could all use more practice and have fun doing it. All clubs are going to be asked to add a “Senior” and a “Master Senior” shoots class at their shoots. This has been approved by the Yolo Bowmen for our Oasis Shoot next year. The Yolo Bowmen will also host the Nor-Cal Outdoor Shoot this year in October. The shoots at Redding, Nevada City and other locations have been great this year.

Range Records:
Financial Report:
Robert Tobarez is reporting that we have been doing well with our members getting their dues in and he has been getting money from the range pay cans. We have also been getting several new members joining the club and attending meetings and shoots. Robert has paid our insurance for another year and all bills are currently paid in full. Good job Robert.
Equipment Report:
We have a new gas powered weed eater and Mark tells us that all other equipment is ready to go. The yellow tractor has new flails just in time for the dry season. We can now mow down to the ground. Thanks to Bill Sr for getting us such a great deal on these replacement parts.
