President’s Report
By Robert Williams

I'm sure that some of you were not aware that we started preparing the range for our annual shoot during the first week of February 2009.  Club members worked tirelessly every Saturday until the day of the shoot (March 15, 2009).  As always, several of our regular members showed up for the work parties, but the bulk of the attendance was new members.  I'd like to thank everyone who worked so hard during the weeks prior to the shoot and a special thank you to the new members.

I believe the wind and the threat of rain kept a lot of shooters from attending our event.  Although we did not get the number of shooters we hoped for, our annual "Oasis Shoot" was still a success.  Many thanks to the members and their families for all your hard work.

Here is a little trivia I think most members and other folks in the archery world don't know about our club.  Yolo Bowmen has been in existence for the last 50 years.  The club will be celebrating it's 50 Anniversary on April 18, 2009, at the range.  There will be plenty of food, the usual archery games/contest and fun for all.  Bring your friends, families, archery gear and your appetite.  The main course will be (deer, elk, turkey) donated by members as well as other domestic snacks (chicken, burgers and hot dogs).  Come out and meet the new members, reconnect with the ones you haven't seen for a while and fellowship with everyone.  As always....continue to support your club and the sport of archery.  –Robert

Vice President’s Report

By Mark Rubio

I want to thank all of you who attended the work parties up to and after the Oasis shoot.  The Range in my opinion has never looked better.  The Oasis was a big hit with the shooters that participated.  My thanks go out to everyone that supported the shoot and donated items for the raffle.  We would not have a successful raffle without the support of our local businesses.  I also want to thank Nor-Cal Motion Targets for coming to our BBQ and giving us a chance to shoot all afternoon on Saturday, what a hoot.  The arrows were flying and the trash talk was, well you know. What a great time it was and then to top it all off we had some great food to end the night.

The new practice range will be moving along just a soon as we can figure out the best shade structure to use for the shooting line.  We have gone through with the range inspector so that we can re-arrange the south side for safety.  We will be drawing up plans soon and taking them to the county for approval.

The other Clubs have been having their open shoots and Yolo has been out representing in a big way bringing home lots of pins and ribbons and some of our members are really lucky when it comes to the raffles, good job to all of you and keep up the good shooting.

One last note, remember that we are out there on Wednesday night shooting league so come out and join us. Also the broadhead league starts on April 9 so come out and get all tuned in for hunting season. It is never too early to start practicing for that shot of a lifetime.   --Mark

Range Report

By Randy Gastineau

We still have bale work to do and targets are an ongoing job.  Someone has done a good job mowing around the picnic area.  Thanks for that and I was told half of the north side was also mowed. We need to address the subject of having sheep on the range.  The first time we had them on the range I thought they did a great job, with the grass full of moisture.  The last time the sheep were on the range, I had heard that they may have done more damage to the trees because the grass has less moisture.  We will have to do some investigating on that.  Mark and I will check into this and we would like to hear from anyone that has any input into the subject.  I would like to say thank you to all for the great help we have had at the work party's this year.  --Randy

Meeting Notes
•    The Pacific Bow Butts bales are now out on the practice, they are very dense and doing a good job of stopping arrows.
•    Thank you to Janie Ledbetter for the awesome 50th anniversary cake we had at the Oasis shoot.
•    Thank you to Patrick Mayer (new member) at Executive Embroidery in Woodland for screen-printing our new safety vests.  We got a lot of compliments, and several guests    said they would report back to their clubs about getting orange vests.
•    We are going to have Executive Embroidery make up some Yolo Bowmen t-shirts with the new logo front and back.  More information on prices, etc. at the next meeting.
•    Post Oasis shoot discussion, what can we do better next year?  We discussed the possibility of two shifts.  Work then shoot, or shoot then work.  This would only be possible if we have a lot of help.  Also, we discussed assigning people to certain jobs before hand, at least more extensively than is currently being done.  We will continue to discuss whether or not we want to repair our targets ourselves or send them to get repaired.  Some people thought that the targets did not hold up as well as they should have for being professionally done.  If we do repair the targets ourselves, we should try to repaint them nicely.
•    We will start having a "Tip-of-the-Month" at each meeting.  If you have any tips or info on hunting, target shooting, or archery in general and would like to share it with fellow members please contact Robert Williams and it will be brought up at the meetings.
•    A lot of discussion about the broadhead league.  See the attached flyer and rules.

Please send any information, news or pictures that you would like to have added to our website or newsletter to Shaun Ayers sayers@ucdavis.edu.  The website can be accessed at http://yolobowmen.com/.

Please remember, absolutely no smoking on the range.
